Pick Your Own at Blue Hills Orchard

This year, we will be kicking off our apple growing season by offering Pick Your Own to our customers! The farm has worked hard to create a fun and safe, family-friendly experience for the members of our community to enjoy. Our Pick Your Own activities will be operating Saturdays 10am-5pm and Sundays 10am-4pm. Customers may arrive at any point through these time slots to take part in the picking. Once you arrive, you must check-in to claim your spot on the wagon down to the designated picking area. The wagon will be cycling people in and out of the picking area all day to maintain a safe number of pickers in the field for social distancing. After customers are brought back in from the field, they must bring their fruit to be weighed and bought ($2.25 per pound). The varieties offered to pick will coincide with what is ripe on that weekend. Please review the following guidelines and precautions before heading to the farm this weekend. (Please note that Pick Your Own is done outside in areas where bees, poison ivy, wildlife and other natural hazards are present. Pick at your own risk. Thank you.) No professional photography sessions please.

Guidelines and COVID-19 Precautions

The following procedures are built in to our “pick your own” program to ensure all patrons health and safety. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

  • If you are feeling sick or unwell, please stay home

  • Masks are optional (please bring your own mask if you require one)

  • Please wash and/or sanitize prior to entering the field; we will have stations set up for your convenience

  • Social distancing is optional (6’ between individuals if desired)

  • Per the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, there is absolutely no eating or sampling in the field to prevent cross-contamination and fruit should be washed at home

  • No climbing trees on the farm or in any of the PYO areas

  • Picking containers will be provided and are included in the price total, no outside bags allowed

  • Every apple counts…please take what you pick, including drops

  • Children must be within arms reach of an adult

  • You must stay with your party/group

  • Pick only where designated (do not enter “closed” areas)

  • Picnicking activity will not be allowed on the farm or in any of the PYO areas

  • Animals/pets will not be allowed on the farm or in any of the PYO areas (exceptions for service animals)
